Some lake days you don’t want to drive the boat, tie the knots, or watch the clock. That’s the white-glove day — a private rental with a licensed captain who brings Connecticut watersports right to your backyard. It’s the upgrade our Lake Waramaug and Litchfield County clients ask for most, and once a family does it once, it tends to become the way they do the lake.
Private rental + captain = the boat, the gear, and a licensed captain at your dock for the day. We handle the watersports, private kids clinics, and the entertaining. Great for Lake Waramaug, Bantam, Lillinonah, Candlewood and the surrounding lakes. No boat to own, no license to earn, no work for you.
What “white-glove” actually means here
This isn’t a bareboat rental where someone hands you a key and disappears. A white-glove day is a clean, fully-outfitted boat delivered to your dock and a licensed captain who runs the whole thing — the driving, the safety, the tubing and wake setups, the anchoring, the timing of the sunset. You and your guests are passengers. There are zero boat chores on your to-do list and zero license required from anyone in your group. You step on, the day happens, you step off.
It’s the closest thing to lakefront ownership without owning a boat — and frankly, a lot of our regulars decided it was better than owning one. You can see the bareboat alternative (where you captain yourself) on our captained pontoon charters page; the white-glove day is simply the most turned-over version of that, brought to your dock for as long as you want it.
Why Lake Waramaug is made for it
Lake Waramaug in Washington, CT is the quintessential Litchfield County lake — quiet, scenic, ringed by hills, and deliberately low-key. It’s the kind of water where a slow captained afternoon feels exactly right: a swim off the back, a drift through a cove, a sunset that the hills frame for you. A captained day lets you enjoy Waramaug the way the lakefront owners do — without buying the boat, finding the dock space, or maintaining anything over the winter. See our Lake Waramaug guide for the lay of the water.
The same day works on the surrounding lakes, and we move between them all season: Bantam Lake (Litchfield/Morris), Lake Lillinonah in New Milford, and Candlewood Lake to the west. If you’re staying on one of them — or hosting a group spread across a few — we bring the boat to whichever dock makes your day easiest.
Watersports, handled
The captain isn’t just a driver — they’re a professional watersports driver and instructor. That means the kids can wakesurf, the teenagers can wakeboard, dad can try to get up on a slalom ski for the first time in twenty years, and everyone can tube until they’re done — all in the same afternoon, all with the gear included, all coached by someone who knows how to read a rider and set a clean wake. It’s essentially a private watersports charter that comes to your dock and stays for the day.
For a family, that’s the part that converts people. Rental boats get rented; a captained watersports day gets remembered. The gear is onboard, the captain sets the rope length and the speed for whoever’s riding, and the learning curve that usually takes a whole summer happens in a single afternoon because the instruction is one-on-one.
Private kids clinics on your lake
If you’ve got kids at the lake house for the week, the single best use of a white-glove day is a private kids clinic — a coached waterski and wakeboard session right off your own dock. Ages roughly 8 to 14, professional drivers, safe and progression-based, and structured so the kids actually get better over the week instead of just splashing around. For a lake-house week it’s usually the highlight the kids talk about on the drive home. See how we run them on our kids’ watersports clinics page — the private version is the same coaching, just on your water and on your schedule.
A private kids clinic on your own lake — usually the highlight of a lake-house week.
Entertaining from the boat
This is the use most people don’t think of until they’ve done it once. A captained boat is a floating venue for hosting: a sunset cocktail cruise for houseguests, a slow lunch anchored in a quiet cove, a swim and a float for the whole extended family, an eco-tour and bird-watching drift for the grandparents, a birthday or reunion that doesn’t require renting a room anywhere. The captain times it and handles the boat so the host actually gets to host — pouring the drinks, talking to people, enjoying their own party instead of driving it.
For lake-house owners with a week of guests rotating through, a white-glove day is the easiest way to give everyone the “lake” part of the trip without it becoming your job for seven straight days.
The host who finally gets to host — the whole point of a white-glove day.
How a white-glove day works
- What we bring: the boat, the watersports gear (tube, kneeboard, wake/surf boards, skis, ropes, life vests), a licensed captain, and fuel. It arrives clean and ready.
- What you bring: your people, your food and drinks, sunscreen, and towels. That’s it.
- Where: your dock on Lake Waramaug, Bantam, Lillinonah, Candlewood, or any of the surrounding lakes. No dock? We’ll sort a meeting spot.
- Timing: half-day, full-day, or a sunset block — or a full week/month if you’ve got the lake house for the season (see our long-term leasing).
Book the sunset block. A slow cruise, a swim, and the golden hour is the part of the day everyone actually remembers — and it’s the easiest block to fit around a full morning of watersports or a long lunch.
